Autoverhuur beoordelingen in Paphos
The main reason to choose Paphos as your pickup point is the price. The same car is usually 10 to 15 per cent cheaper here than in Larnaca. The airport is smaller, there are fewer suppliers, and there are essentially no queues. The second reason is location: Paphos is the easiest gateway to the Akamas peninsula and the mountain villages around Polis and Latchi. This is not the polished side of Cyprus on the postcards — it is the wild one.
The Paphos airport runs quickly: five minutes from the arrivals exit to the car park, another five for the contract. The seasonal pressure is gentler too — in Larnaca July queues run an hour, here the same flow stays in the background.
Archaeology adds to the case for Paphos. The Mosaics Park in Kato Paphos and the Tombs of the Kings are UNESCO sites, and they are not easy to walk between — a car widens the radius significantly. From here it also makes sense to drive to the ruins of Kourion on the way to Limassol, or to put together a longer day-trip towards Larnaca with stops in the hills.
From Paphos to Akamas is around forty minutes, to Limassol an hour, to Larnaca two. The car pays for itself on the first full day of the trip — especially if a Akamas run is on the plan.
Paphos airport (PFO): closer, smaller, simpler
Paphos airport (PFO) is the second-largest on the island, but in scale it feels regional rather than international. Picking up the car here takes about the same ten minutes as in Larnaca, but without the crowd: one or two flights an hour, half-empty halls, parking right outside the terminal.
Your supplier meets you at the arrivals exit with a flight-number sign. The car waits on the lot across from the terminal — no shuttle bus and no movement between buildings. Late arrivals are noticeably easier here than in Larnaca, where the rental side of the airport quietens down sharply after midnight; Paphos keeps things steady through the night.
Paphos routes and ideas on our blog
The blog gathers everything we have written about western Cyprus: which Akamas beaches you can reach without a 4x4, how to plan a day in Polis and Latchi, where to eat in the mountain villages on the road from Paphos to Limassol, which wineries around Lania welcome walk-in visitors. Every route is written for travellers driving a rental car, with notes on parking and timing.
Parking and small everyday details in Paphos
Parking is simpler in Paphos than in Larnaca. There are more free spots, and blue zones only apply in Kato Paphos around the harbour and along the seafront. Pay at the meter or through the easyPark app — around a euro per hour in high season. The upper town has almost no paid zones at all.
Most hotels in Kato Paphos and Coral Bay come with parking for guests, usually free. The archaeological park has its own paid lot with a daily rate. Heading to Akamas, fill the tank in advance: between Polis and Latchi, fuel stations are sparse and not all of them keep night hours.
Parking by the Paphos harbour costs more in summer than three blocks back into town. The difference is a couple of euros, but the tourist flow goes straight to the seafront and the spots there fill up an hour before sunset. The side streets near the churches are nearly always empty.

Lower prices on the same model
Economy cars in Paphos are typically 10 to 15 per cent cheaper than in Larnaca for the same model. Suppliers compete more sharply for fewer travellers, and longer rentals attract real discounts. In high season the price gap alone can cover the cost of an extra rental day.
-
Hotel delivery along the west coast
Paphos hotels are spread out from Kato Paphos through Coral Bay and up to Polis. Hotel delivery is a standard service with most suppliers. Rates are usually fixed by zone, and for the more distant areas it often works out cheaper than a taxi from the airport.
-
Four-wheel drive for Akamas
The roads on Akamas turn into gravel tracks past Latchi, and standard insurance does not cover them. If the peninsula is on your route, look for a crossover with a package that adds underbody and tyre cover. The fleet of such cars in Paphos is limited — book a month or two ahead.

Yes — typically 10 to 15 per cent cheaper for the same model. Paphos airport (PFO) has fewer suppliers and fewer travellers, so competition for each booking is sharper and longer rentals attract real discounts. In high season the price gap can cover the cost of an extra rental day.
Picking up takes about ten minutes — your TakeCars partner meets you at the arrivals exit with a flight-number sign and the car waits on the lot across from the terminal. PFO is regional in scale (one or two flights an hour, half-empty halls), so there is no queue. Late-night pickups are noticeably easier here than in Larnaca, which quietens down sharply after midnight.
The road is asphalt only as far as Latchi — beyond that, the Akamas peninsula is gravel, and TakeCars partners (along with most local rentals) prohibit driving on unpaved roads. Standard insurance does not cover damage from gravel, dust, or underbody scrapes. If Akamas is on your route, look for a crossover with a package that explicitly adds underbody and tyre cover.
From 21 with at least one year of experience on TakeCars partner cars. The widest fleet is open to drivers 26 and over with three years' experience. Some Paphos suppliers are stricter and start at 23–25; on the car listing the per-car age is shown before booking.
Range is €0 to €1,500 depending on supplier and car class. Local Paphos suppliers typically take €100–€500, often payable in cash or on a debit card. International chains hold €500–€1,500 on a credit card in the driver's name. Convertibles and crossovers carry a higher deposit set by the insurer rather than the supplier.
Yes — hotel delivery is a standard service with most TakeCars partners along the west coast from Kato Paphos through Coral Bay up to Polis and Latchi. Rates are usually fixed by zone, and for the more distant areas it often works out cheaper than a taxi from PFO airport.
Blue zones apply only in Kato Paphos around the harbour and along the seafront — pay at the meter or via the easyPark app, around €1 per hour in high season. The upper town has almost no paid zones. Most hotels in Kato Paphos and Coral Bay come with parking for guests, usually included in the room rate.
Yes — one-way rentals between PFO and LCA are standard with most TakeCars partners. The surcharge is shown at booking and depends on the supplier and direction. Specify the drop-off airport in the search; the listing then narrows to cars eligible for that route.
Few, and not all keep night hours. Heading to Akamas, fill the tank in Paphos before leaving the city — beyond Polis the network thins out and out-of-hours options are limited. Cyprus has unleaded 95/98 and diesel only; LPG is essentially unavailable.
For long mountain climbs out of Paphos, a diesel saloon or a small crossover with a healthy engine pulls better than a basic economy hatchback. Manuals give finer control on long descents; if you go with an automatic, the lowest gear setting helps avoid overheating the brakes. Convertibles and luxury cars carry a higher deposit and stricter mileage policies.
