The airport is smaller, there are fewer suppliers, and there are essentially no queues. The second reason is location: Paphos is the easiest gateway to the Akamas peninsula and the mountain villages around Polis and Latchi. This is not the polished side of Cyprus on the postcards — it is the wild one.
The Paphos airport runs quickly: five minutes from the arrivals exit to the car park, another five for the contract. The seasonal pressure is gentler too — in Larnaca July queues run an hour, here the same flow stays in the background.
Archaeology adds to the case for Paphos. The Mosaics Park in Kato Paphos and the Tombs of the Kings are UNESCO sites, and they are not easy to walk between — a car widens the radius significantly. From here it also makes sense to drive to the ruins of Kourion on the way to Limassol, or to put together a longer day-trip towards Larnaca with stops in the hills.
From Paphos to Akamas is around forty minutes, to Limassol an hour, to Larnaca two. The car pays for itself on the first full day of the trip — especially if a Akamas run is on the plan.
Paphos airport (PFO): closer, smaller, simpler
Paphos airport (PFO) is the second-largest on the island, but in scale it feels regional rather than international. Picking up the car here takes about the same ten minutes as in Larnaca, but without the crowd: one or two flights an hour, half-empty halls, parking right outside the terminal.
Your supplier meets you at the arrivals exit with a flight-number sign. The car waits on the lot across from the terminal — no shuttle bus and no movement between buildings. Late arrivals are noticeably easier here than in Larnaca, where the rental side of the airport quietens down sharply after midnight; Paphos keeps things steady through the night.

We waren erg blij met onze huurauto bij jullie. Het inleveren bij ons hotel op een tijdstip dat ons goed uitkwam en het ophalen op een tijdstip dat jullie goed uitkwam, waarbij we de sleutels bij de receptie achterlieten, kwam ons perfect uit. Bedankt! Alles ging geweldig, maar ik had een Nissan Note in plaats van een Suzuki Swift, maar het was nog beter. Erg blij met de service, de auto werd opgehaald/afgeleverd op het vliegveld, niet eens in de parkeergarage, maar direct buiten de terminal. Geen borg en geen eigen risico - perfect, ik zal dezelfde opties blijven kiezen. Ik heb eerder andere verhuurdiensten gebruikt, maar die werden aanzienlijk duurder tijdens de pandemie. Het enige wat ik niet leuk vond, was de noodzaak om de auto te wassen voordat ik hem inleverde. Ik vind het makkelijker om een tientje extra te betalen, want op weg naar het vliegveld is het onaangenaam om in de rij te staan voor een wasbeurt bij een benzinestation en nerveus te zijn over verloren tijd.

Boekte een auto in Cyprus, alles was zeer gunstig. Ik koos de juiste auto 4 uur van tevoren en betaalde 10% vooruit. Het gebied was niet in de belangrijkste stad, maar de levering was gratis bij het hotel. Ook gratis op mijn verzoek was een kinderzitje. (Meestal zijn het betaalde diensten) een uur voor de aangegeven tijd met mij contact opgenomen met de ondersteuningsdienst en de bestuurder van de auto op Viber en in het Russisch. De chauffeur was trouwens ook Russisch, hij vertelde me alles in detail. Ik kreeg een kaart met bezienswaardigheden met coördinaten, we tekenden een contract. De auto Suzuki Alto, automaat, zeer schoon en alles werkt naar behoren. Hij verbruikt heel weinig benzine. Met airconditioning. Van de pluspunten - goedkoop en alles is heel duidelijk en transparant. Wishful thinking - de site geeft de aanwezigheid van airconditioning niet aan. Een beetje nerveus, het gebeurt. Om de minimale termijn, of aanbevolen, voor hoeveel uur of dagen om een auto te bestellen. Op de website kun je zelfs in een half uur bestellen, maar de bevestigingstijd is maximaal 24 uur.

Parking and small everyday details in Paphos
Parking is simpler in Paphos than in Larnaca. There are more free spots, and blue zones only apply in Kato Paphos around the harbour and along the seafront. Pay at the meter or through the easyPark app — around a euro per hour in high season. The upper town has almost no paid zones at all.
Most hotels in Kato Paphos and Coral Bay come with parking for guests, usually free. The archaeological park has its own paid lot with a daily rate. Heading to Akamas, fill the tank in advance: between Polis and Latchi, fuel stations are sparse and not all of them keep night hours.
Parking by the Paphos harbour costs more in summer than three blocks back into town. The difference is a couple of euros, but the tourist flow goes straight to the seafront and the spots there fill up an hour before sunset. The side streets near the churches are nearly always empty.
