Alles ging goed. Het was gemakkelijk om een bestelling te plaatsen. Goede prijs-kwaliteitverhouding. De medewerkers van het verhuurbedrijf zijn vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Het enige probleem is de teruggave van de borg. Ik zou de teruggave op Russische Mir-kaarten willen realiseren. Volgend jaar, als we weer door Tashkent gaan, nemen we hier zeker een auto voor een trip naar Samarkand.

In plaats van een oude Captiva kreeg ik een relatief nieuwe Equinox. Ik nam de auto in ontvangst op het adres in Tashkent en leverde hem in op het vliegveld. Ik heb ruim 2500 km afgelegd in Oezbekistan, sommige wegen in Khorezm en Karakalpakstan zijn echt "niet zo goed", maar over het algemeen zijn de wegen in het land normaal, en op sommige plekken zelfs uitstekend. Er was een gedwongen stop van 3 uur op de snelweg in Kyzylkumy (benzinepomp defect), maar in de dichtstbijzijnde autoreparatiewerkplaats (direct aan de snelweg) werd de pomp na computerdiagnose vervangen en het bedrijf dekte mijn reparatiekosten (100 USD). Over het algemeen verliep de huur goed.

Driver Tips: What You Need to Know
🅿️ Parking in Tbilisi: Be sure to download the Parking Tbilisi app. Parking enforcement is strict and fines come quickly.
📍 Navigation: We recommend offline maps from Maps.me — they’re more accurate on mountain roads and off-road routes than Google Maps.
🛞 Winter season: From December 1 to March 1, winter tires are mandatory on mountain passes. We’ll find you a car fully equipped for the mountains.
🚗 Choose the car for your route. For Tusheti you need a real 4WD with low-range gears. On the Tbilisi–Batumi highway, a Prius will save on fuel. For Svaneti’s gravel roads, go with a proper 4×4.
Insurance: Protection Without Surprises
Every car already includes mandatory third-party liability insurance (TPL) — free of charge.
For protection of the rental car itself, choose one of the additional options:
- CDW / Super CDW — covers vehicle damage. Super CDW includes windshield, tires, wheels, and undercarriage.
- Full CDW (Recommended) — zero liability — you pay nothing for any damage whatsoever.
Most cars with CDW and above require no deposit — look for the “No deposit” label in the listing. We accept Russian bank cards for booking any protection option.
Driving Specifics
Traffic drives on the right. Speed limits: 60 km/h in towns, 80–90 km/h on rural roads, 110 km/h on highways (follow road signs). Legal blood alcohol limit is 0.03‰ (practically zero tolerance).
Main intercity roads are in good condition. Mountain roads (Gudauri, Mestia, Stepantsminda) are paved but narrow, with sharp turns and possible rockfalls — always keep your headlights on.
Fuel & Parking
Gas stations are found along all major routes. We recommend Wissol, Gulf, or Socar — consistently high quality. Fuel price is approximately 2.9–3.5 GEL per liter.
Paid parking operates only in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Kutaisi — via city apps. Everywhere else, parking is free.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Georgia?

Winter (January–March) offers the best rates — great time for ski trips to Gudauri. September–October (grape harvest season in Kakheti) brings perfect weather and moderate prices. July–August is peak season: book 2–4 weeks ahead or the best cars will be taken.
To save 10–15%, book early. Early booking locks in the price and helps avoid shortages without unexpected surcharges.
