Alles bij elkaar was alles prima. Er was één onaangenaam moment. Ik had een ongeluk op de eerste dag van de huur (passagiersdeur, achterklep en een stukje van de achtervleugel). Volgens het contract moest ik 600 euro betalen. En ik heb het gevoel dat ik te veel heb betaald. Want ik geloof niet dat voor een klein deukje en krasjes reparatie 600 euro zou zijn geweest. Soms sloeg de auto af, maar zelden.

Ik geef er de voorkeur aan om alleen bij Alik een auto te huren in Cyprus. Deze keer was alles zo goed als altijd. Ik werd opgewacht met alle documenten en een schone auto. De auto werd in vijf minuten overhandigd en ook de teruggave duurde vijf minuten. Erg dankbaar voor de goede service. Tegen iedereen die dit leest, kan ik maar één ding zeggen: boek een auto bij Alik en je zult er geen spijt van krijgen.

We hebben het huurcontract uitgesteld tot de laatste dag voordat we op vakantie gingen. En ondanks dat hadden we veel geluk met jullie. Perfecte service. Slechts één ding, ik wilde een kleiner babyzitje (baby van 6 maanden), maar dat is niet te bestellen. Voor mij was het perfect dat de dame om 4 uur 's ochtends op de luchthaven stond te wachten en dat ik de auto daar kon afgeven. Ik ontving de auto met 1/4 gas en kreeg de auto terug met 1/2 gas. Maar ik kreeg geen geld terug

Northern Cyprus: separate rules, separate insurance
The border between the Republic of Cyprus and the northern (Turkish) part of the island is real, and not every supplier allows you to cross it in their car. Most companies forbid the trip outright: insurance taken out on the southern side does not work in the north. A few suppliers on Cyprus do allow the crossing, but it always needs to be agreed before booking, when picking the car. At the Agios Dometios (Metehan) checkpoint near Nicosia, you buy a separate Turkish third-party policy at the kiosk — it is cheap, but you will not be allowed in without it. It happens that a renter books with a supplier who does not allow Northern Cyprus, and ends up turned back at the border. Crossing rules need confirming before you sign the contract — not the day before the trip.

Most European licences need no IDP
EU, EFTA, UK and Swiss licences are accepted on the plastic card alone — no International Driving Permit required. Licences from outside this group are accepted as long as they include Latin script. An IDP is needed only if your card is in a non-Latin alphabet, like Arabic, Chinese or Japanese.
